Where do icarscan reset the service intervals?

The ICarScan Launch software is not as intuitive as one would think. Where do you go in the menu to reset the service intervals? Do you know if it will reset brake pad warning? My pads are fine-if so, do you know where that reset is?

The brake pad warning is automatically reset when you have a working warning sensor. ONCE triggered the sensor MUST BE REPLACED to turn the light off. It is worn through by the brake rotor when the pad backing gets close to the rotor. Your pads may be fine – but if the light is on – at least one sensor isn’t. The sensors are usually replaced with pads – they’re difficult to remove intact once the pads have some heat/time on them, so replacement is considered SOP.

I’m not sure how intuitive you would think the software should be – I personally find it easier to use than the Durametric. The only annoying thing I find is the action of your phones (Android phones) back button is inconsistent. But that’s true for almost any Android app or website, so nothing new there. At least this asks you if you’re sure you want to exit the program before doing it, and reminds you to take the OBD-II dongle when you’re done.

I’ll have to take a look at where the reset functions are for service reminders – I seem to recall them being fairly high up in the menu hierarchy, not difficult to find.

Engine Vacuum Leak Symptoms and Solutions

If your vehicle has an engine vacuum leak, the air-fuel ratio in your engine will be higher than 14.7:1, also called a “lean” mixture. This ratio means that there is too much air in your engine, and as a result, the engine will run poorly or not at all. If you suspect that your vehicle has a vacuum leak, read on to learn the most common symptoms, as well as how to fix them.

Common Symptoms of an Engine Vacuum Leak

Engine vacuum leaks are commonly associated with the following symptoms, but keep in mind that this is not an autel diagnostic scanner.

Engine Running Problems

An engine with a vacuum leak could potentially run normally, but it may idle faster than usual, idle roughly, misfire, hesitate, or stall. You may find your vehicle doesn’t accelerate as well as it typically does. Major intake leaks might prevent the engine from starting at all.

Fuel Economy and Emissions

The lean air-fuel ratio will burn hotter and increase the generation of oxide emissions, such as nitrogen oxide (NOx) and sulfur oxide (SOx). Even if the check engine light isn’t triggered, the vehicle may still fail emissions testing. Drivers would also note reduced fuel economy as the engine controller attempts to compensate by adding more fuel. The evaporative emissions control system (EVAP) also depends on vacuum to function, so a vacuum leak in an EVAP valve or tubing might set an emissions diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

Check Engine Light

The engine control module (ECM) continuously monitors the environment in the engine. Using the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor or mass air flow (MAF) sensor, among others, the ECM modulates fuel injector pulse, spark timing, and valve timing. If there is a vacuum leak, the ECM may be unable to compensate. Short-term or long-term fuel trim, STFT or LTFT on a scan tool Car Repair Software, might show something like +10% or +25% as the ECM attempts to compensate for unmetered air. P0171 and P0174 are common Fuel System Lean DTC.

Engine Damage

At its worst, long-term driving with a vacuum leak, elevated temperatures generated by running a lean air-fuel ratio could result in engine damage. Lean mixtures can detonate, damaging pistons and bearings. Higher than normal exhaust temperatures can also lead to catalytic converter meltdown.

Other Issues

Depending on where the vacuum leak is located, it could cause a variety of other problems. Some fuel pressure regulators are vacuum modulated, and so would jump to high pressure when vacuum is lost. This could result in fuel trim problems and a check engine light, possibly with Fuel System Rich DTCs, such as P0172 or P0175. Some older power steering systems idle-up the engine using a vacuum switching valve (VSV), but a vacuum leak might stall the engine during a parking maneuver. Many vehicles use a vacuum-actuated brake booster, reducing braking effort, but a vacuum leak here might make it harder to stop your car.

Identifying an Engine Vacuum Leak

There are several methods you can use to identify a vacuum leak. Start with a vacuum hose diagram, which you can find in a repair manual or sometimes on a sticker under the hood. Using one of the following methods, finding the vacuum leak might manifest itself as a change in engine speed or idle smoothness. Smaller leaks may only manifest themselves as fluctuating STFT readings on a OBD2 vehicle scanner.

Visual Check

A visual check is a good way to start, particularly with vacuum hoses and tubes. Exposed to extreme under-hood temperatures and oxygen in the atmosphere, rubber vacuum hoses and plastic vacuum tubes can become stiff or brittle, easily cracking or breaking. Similarly, rubber engine intake tubes can also become brittle, cracking and opening a way for unmetered air to get into the system. Physically manipulating these components with the engine running might reveal the leak.

Water Method

This is the simplest and cheapest method, as it utilizes just a simple spray bottle of water. With the engine running, spray water around suspected vacuum leak areas, such as vacuum hose fittings, intake manifold gaskets, and throttle plate bushings. A vacuum leak will suck in water, temporarily “sealing” the leak. This tiny amount of water won’t do any damage to your engine.

Carb Cleaner

Another method is to use a can of carburetor cleaner or intake cleaner spray. Please note that carb cleaner is flammable, so caution must be exercised and a fire extinguisher must be kept close at hand.. Sparingly spray the cleaner to suspect vacuum leak areas, while the engine is idling. If the leak is found, the engine will likely smooth out as the flammable mixture makes up for the lean air-fuel ratio.

Propane

This is a time-tested method for finding vacuum leaks, working on a principle similar to using carb cleaner. Use a small unlit propane torch, such as used for brazing or soldering, and a length of rubber hose. Poke the end of the hose around suspect vacuum leak areas with the engine idling. If the leak is found, the engine will probably speed up or smooth out as the flammable gas “compensates” for the lean AFR. Again, please note that propane is flammable, so caution must be exercised and a fire extinguisher must be kept close at hand.

Mechanic’s Stethoscope

Using a mechanic’s stethoscope with the probe removed and a length of hose, poke around suspected leak areas while the engine is running. Don’t forget to check around the vacuum brake booster, both in the engine bay and behind the brake pedal. Smaller leaks might be difficult to pinpoint, but a trained ear can pick up the distinctive hissing or whistling sound emitted by a vacuum leak.

Bubble Test

If you have access to an air compressor with a good regulator, introduce no more than 2 psi air into the intake with the engine off. (Under 2 psi is critical, as you can damage sensors or valves or create new leaks with higher psi.) Seal off the throttle body and exhaust, then use a soapy-water mixture to spray down the engine. Vacuum leaks may be revealed by the mixture bubbling up at the site of the leak.

Smoke Machine

This is the most expensive and safest method, but usually yields the best results. Not everyone has access to these expensive tools, but it may be necessary if the vacuum leak eludes you. With the engine off, plug the intake and exhaust and start the smoke machine injecting smoke into the intake. The harmless smoke, vaporized mineral oil, might take a couple minutes to fill the system, and will then start looking for ways to get out. A tiny plume of smoke will reveal vacuum leaks, so it’s best to do this test in an area free of drafts or wind.

Once you’ve identified the source of the leak, the obvious solution is to repair it, but it isn’t always a simple fix. Vacuum hoses can be replaced easily, as can sensor or tube O-rings, and some valves are also easy to replace. Other vacuum leaks might be more difficult and time-consuming, such as intake manifold gaskets or a faulty brake booster. As always, if you feel like the job is beyond you, check with your local trusted mechanic for professional assistance. Don’t forget to reset the check engine light when you’re done making repairs.

Service procedures and data, intended for the engine, are available in two groups:

a) basic menu: Vehicle management/Service function/Powertrain/Engine Electronics
b) Call up ECU functions menu of the engine management unit

In the basic menu you can choose:

a) viewing data correction of cylinder Rough run and Stoichiometric mixture;
b) coding the injector data;
c) coding new NOx catalytic converter and NOx sensor, activate Desulphation session;
d) delete adaptations;
e) perform misfire/Rough run test for cold engine and view the “opinion” of DME, which engine has problems with smooth running.

In DME Call up menu you can choose:

a) view live data;
b) perform activation tests for several knots.

Now, start the review with DME Call up menu.

To enter it, click with Mouse on DME icon on the “tree” of units and press the button “Call up ECU function”.

Call up menu contains three basic choices:

a) identification: basic data of ECU unit;
b) diagnosis scan: live data;
c) component triggering: activation/test blocks.

“Identification” menu is very clear, so we move to diagnosis scan menu – content of it is seen in the image above.

The content of Component triggering submenu :

Unfortunately, the amount of test blocks is tiny. As can be seen, it’s possible to test the pressure of the low-pressure pump, in the injectors menu: switch off any of cylinders, switch on the water pump and electric fan.

Blocks of engine performance modes, Lambda probes, generator, VANOS, EGR and many other important knots are not available.

Diagnosis scan submenu.

a) fuel pressure (high pressure);
b) fuel pressure (low pressure);
c) idle;

allows to view exact values of the parameter and are not very interesting. Only remark (it refers to all analog/live data values, displayed by ISTA):

a) data representation is in small size, it’s hard to see the data, for example, during the driving session;
b) main part (with rare exceptions) of data have no reference value, no min/max limits displayed; no explanation for specific data;
c) bar type indicators are not used – they would ease the viewing of variables.

To read the required parameters, they have to be chosen (it/they will color in blue) and press the button ” Read status”.

Example, how does a viewing of live data look’s, using ISTA D:

Unfortunately, data are opaque – there is no visible separation, no ref/min/max limits, no bar indicators.

Several disadvantages of menu:

a) oil pressure – no required oil pressure displayed;
b) no PWM for keeping up the pressure is displayed;
c) data of detected pressure are displayed with an offset of -1000hPa.

The content of submenu, choosing operating values of the N53 series engine:

This submenu has “several” disadvantages:

a) the engine performance mode is displayed, but no Lambda values, with which the engine works, can be seen;
b) no possibility to overlook data during the desulphation process;
c) no PWM both for the low-pressure and high-pressure system can be seen – no information of system’s ability to hold the pressure;
d) no Offset values for NOx sensor data are visible, no reported Lambda values (wide-band and narrow-band).

Data of “Operational smoothness values” submenu:

In this menu, Rough run value min/max values ( +/-200) are displayed. According to the software release, in case of the normal engine performance, the values fluctuate in limits of +/-0.2, for some releases – only within limits of 0.02. It means, 0.1 or even 0,01% of max displayed! Conclusion – these indicated values are just confusing the user!

It’s not even worth to mention, that math, which would describe the coefficient ”engine order 0.5/1.0/1.5”, is not even present.

Content of ”Oxygen-sensor control” submenu:

This submenu has “several” disadvantages:

a) multiplicative adaptations are not displayed at all;
b) Lambda value for wide-band probes is not calculated/displayed; no description, how to interpret “voltage” indications;
c) PWM of probe heating is not displayed, from the status description it’s not clear, is the probe being heated or is already heated;
d) no Nernst resistance for probes is displayed, chemical activity of probes cannot be seen; no manual control of probe heating is possible;
e) the engine performance mode (requested/confirmed) is not displayed;
f) required Lambda values and their conformity to measured are not displayed.

No data available about:

a) injectors: learnbits;
b) injectors: real time values (opening time; multiplicative adaptations; voltage; energy, etc);
c) injectors: mechanical and chemical tests/results.

Submenu ”States” contains some of the status bits:

Unfortunately here the viewing of engine Live data ends. As you can see, the amount of displayed data is many times less than with INPA, and displayed data cannot be viewed easily.

Rough run values for correctly performing engine display lasting disbalance, therefore it’s not clear, what are these data. Possibly – applied Offset type corrections for each injector to reach smooth performance.

Stochastic irregular operation data:

Also regarding these data – no information. In ideal scenario – all values are targeting 0? Or, most probably: all values are targeting 50; increased value – decreased mechanical efficiency.

We can only pay our condolences to a specialist of the dealer center, who has to work with such “data”.

Delete adaptations submenu:

Unfortunately – no information, which menu deletes which group of adaptations.

Also, information regarding stored error messages is more than modest:

For example, in the existing situation, INPA freeze-frame will additionally display:

a) engine performance mode (Homogeneous/Homogeneous lean/Stratified charge);
b) engine status (work or heating up);
c) offset, multiplicative adaptation and integrator values, etc.

Data for separate knots can be seen into appropriate functionality blocks, as an example, we will view test block of VANOS:

After performing such tests, the diagnostics specialist has to take the decision by himself, does the VANOS performs correctly – ISTA displays following menu of suggestions:

As you can see, this menu doesn’t give exact answers.

Additionally, there are no possibilities to choose the position of camshaft manually, evaluate the PWM of the valve, it’s jittering.

The situation with, for example, checking the oil pressure is even sadder. There is no possibility to compare the inquired and measured oil pressure, no possibility to evaluate the PWM of oil valve. No test block, which could be started. Only testing option, offered by ISTA: evaluation of PWM of the valve with an oscilloscope. And, if rectangular impulses are observed, ISTA reports, that everything is in working condition!

Everything is in order, not taking into the account the PWM value, not taking into account it’s jittering? Impressive!

It is regrettable, that the dealer specialists are forced to work with such weak diagnostic tool. INPA options for MSD80 diagnostics are incomparably wider, but, for unknown reasons, INPA is banned for using in dealer service centers.

How to use Cummins INLINE 7 Insite 8.3 software?

How to install GM TECH2 TIS2000 VS VXDIAG Nano VS MDI

How to install Tech 2 Scan Tool? How to install VXDIAG VCX NANO GM? How to install GM MDI?

Here we go:

ON the VX nano, sometimes you can get Tech2win to run on win 10 (maybe if you have an AMD chip or not, but have not figure that one out yet), while on my i7 machine, Tech 2 win will not run in win 10 instead.
Tech2win is the program that works just like a Tech II, but the program running on a laptop for the MDI (clone MDI device which the Nano is).
GDS2 is the program for the C7, like the tech II and tech2win with midi is for the C6 instead.
On the VM GDS 2 , you don’t need an account with GM to use it, short of needing to do SPS programming, which you will need a TDS SPS subscription instead ($40 for 2 years per car).

So the low down for most laptops,
Wants to be running in win 10 for TDS SPS programming.
Needs to be running a multi core chip in win 7 or above to run VM player for VM GDS2.
Need to be running in Win 7 native (32 or 64 bit) to run Tech2win (will not work in a VM shell).
Tis2000 needs to run in WinXP or built vmXP shell, so it can be native in XP or in a VM shell so long as you have a multicore processor.

So the way I do it, since Tech2win will not run native on my machine with a I7 processes in win 10, I have a dual boot up in win 7 and win 10 both.

Win 10 is used to run pretty much everything I run, short of Tech2 win, which I use the win 7 64 boot up to run it.

So in the Win 7 dual boot up (small 40 gig partition off the drive), have tech2win to use the Nano as a Tech II, plus VM GMSI, and Tis2000 in a VM shell since I may need them as well for the VX nano running as a tech II when running in win 7.

In win 10 boot up,

If you want to just run a single OS system, instead of a dual boot up machine since you can’t get Tech2 win to run in win10, then you can run pretty much run everything in win 7 (32 or 64 bit), so long as you have a CPU that has multi cores. Hence you going to need to run at least VM player for the VM shells, and it take as multi core processor to run VM player (or VM workstation).
Note, I have VM workstation, instead of just VM player, since I build other VM shells to run in windows as well.

So again, it really just depends on your machine, and if you Tech2win will run correctly on it or not.
Hence the problem is when you open Tech2win, you need to get three pop up screens once Tech2win start the program.

The first screen will ask you what country, and you select north America.

The second pop up will ask you if the device is a MDI 1 or MDI 2, and you select Mdi 1.

The third pop up screen will ask you if you want to select the USB device (the nano plugged into a USB port), you select it, then it will take you to the Tech2win start screen.

So if you open Tech2win, and you don’t get the three pop up screens but just goes directly to tech2win main start screen below instead, then Tech2win is not going to work on your machines win 10 . Hence the problem is a glitch in midi and tech2 win interface to select the nano to begin with (what the pop up screens are), and if you can’t select the nano via the pop up screens, tech2win will not connect to the nano in the first place.

Again don’t know if this is a AMD verse Intel CPU problem in win 10, but the only laptops that I have seen run Tech2win in windows 10, just happened to be laptops running a AMD CPU instead. And yes, have tried to skin the cat many way with added drivers and compatibility modes, and it’s driver/code line that win 10 does not have for the intel CPU (but seems to to have for the AMD CPU that is a carry over from the win 7 days to make the AMD chip work with win 10 instead).

Or Here is the driver link needed for the VM XP that the TIS2000 is going to run native in and will need to be installed in the VM shell for the usb cable.

On the above link, several older OS’s are listed for the driver downloads, one being MS Vista. However in the minimum system requirements sections for the OS, Vista is not listed.

TS2000 and WIN software only runs on XP ,the drivers that are listed are for the USB to RS232 port adapter you have to by if your computer does not have a 232 port.

Anyone know GM TECH2 and MID diagnostic tools

What is the difference between the TECH 2 hand held tool and the newer MID interface you use with a laptop? From what I read, the MID will replace the TECH2 but currently it doesn’t diagnose, just program. I need to diagnose a few issues on a 2007 Silverado, 2012 Cruze and 2013 Cruze flood car. The clones are under $400 so it might be time to get one.

The Cheap $224.00 to $400.00 Tech 2s, made in China and don’t even bother having updates installed.They will crash when when updates are installed.Overall the clone Tech 2s are good for what you are doing and are good as the real version now made by Bosch.The real version was made by Vetronix,Bosch bought out Vetronix in 2003.Also make sure it has the Candi box with it,a must for these CAN vehicles.

The last update for the tech 2 has already come out so, I would think about buying a new one unless you work on a lot of GM products.

Depending on the vehicle you’re working on, the GM MDI (Multiple Diagnostic Interface) will do everything a Tech 2 will do but, you’ll need a laptop and GDS software. Going forward from the 2013 model year, the MDI with a laptop will be the GM Diagnostic tool.

Confirm your card with a brand:
Before buying, you should tell your seller: Will you choose GM or SAAB or Isuzu or Opel card?
Because every card to one brand cars. If you want to do more brands, they will ask your pay extra fee for other cards.

Chinese clone Tech II don’t have hardware key but it can do programming

TIS2000 dongle & sw make it:
The TIS2000 Dongle( the newest one is USB flash type ) and the TIS 2000 software could do the SPS programming . usually the chinese gm tech 2 kit not included it . you should point it speartly that you need it very important . may be need more $100.0 for the dongle and software

Work for cars 2008 or older:
You should use the Professional Diagnostic Tool TIS200 dongle and software for reprogramming SPS and access Immo SYSTEM but just work for 2008 year or older. for new cars, you should use the MDI module programming online

MDI instead for new cars:
buy GM MDI instead as it will run tech2win and do sps flashing and also do latest model cars that tech2 won’t do

Must have TIS2000:
the Chinese GM Tech-2 can’t program, if you want to do programming you need to buy the TIS2000 software. It has the hardware key.

Works well for one year:

Works fine for 2 years:
I bought a Chinese OPEL TECH2 interface off obd2tool.com, from two years now and it stills working fine. If you use the right software you wont found any inconvenience …
There’s no need of drivers and Opel tech II is an Auto exec file, so it doesn’t need to install.

Both 2 units work fine:
I bought 2 units from different suppliers, both work fine, until I bought the original tech2 card from one of this suppliers It does snapshots, and programming but one of the units wont accept the card, it seems like one of the edges close to the pin connector side , is been damage well one of the problems, the main problem I think is after I use explorer manager to upload the file to the tech2 card on my laptop I did it many times with no problems it work just fine, but after that day I couldn’t it goes up to 25% and gives an error related to power , couldn’t find a card of 12v or something like that, and the other card finish fine but when when I plug to the tech2 it wont recognize the card it displays downloading mode and that it, but a clone card work fine so I use this to diagnose, ifany body knows how to do a low level format or some fix like that in order to be able to use the card again please help.

Until today I’m using tech2 clone from www.obd2tool.com it does SPS and all, still working fine I have a software emulator for dongle it works great on American NAO, Brasil, Isuzu, I do SPS on all this vehicles with no problems. just make sure you get a card for SPS, snapshots and it will work.

How to Register OBDSTAR X300 DP Plus Tablet

Here’s the easy steps to register OBDSTAR X300 DP PLUS tablet (X300 PAD2/Key Master DP PLUS)  key programmer.
1.Turn on obdstar DP PLUS

4.Connect the power supply and charge it (Register password appears automatically)
